Iron & Ivy workshop portrait with wrought-iron trellises, copper vessels, hanging loofahs and warm forge lighting

Meet the grower

I’m Dee, the heart and hands behind Iron and Ivy Apothecary. This began with a few loofah seeds in my North Carolina home, while I was caring for my dad. He would ask me, “You seen anything yet?” Such a small question. One I carry with me now.

After losing him, I didn’t have a plan for how to begin again. I had a garden that needed tending. Some days, putting my hands in the soil gave me somewhere to bring what I couldn’t put into words.

These are my first loofahs. I’m still learning, still watching the vines climb their iron trellises, still finding my way. I can’t separate this little apothecary from the love and loss that brought me here.

My hope is to share something tender and real from this place: a little quiet, a moment to care for yourself, and something grown with my own hands. Thank you for being here, while the garden and I are still growing.

From my garden to your glow.

The garden behind Iron & Ivy Apothecary is more than a place where I grow loofahs. It's my sanctuary. It's where a simple challenge from my father took root and eventually grew into something neither of us could have imagined. Every vine, bloom, and harvest reminds me of the mornings we spent waiting for those first seeds to sprout. Though my father is no longer here, I still feel connected to him in the garden. It's where I go to reflect, remember, and continue the journey we began together.

With care, from our garden

Our Loofah Story

From seed pop to drying in the wind, this is the ongoing story of my first homegrown loofah garden. Each stage below has one compact image slot and room for a short caption.

From my garden to your glow.

It finally popped up out of the soil.

Stage 2: Sprouts Moving Outside
Getting them used to being outside, almost time to be planted in the garden.

Stage 3: Young-looking rough.
I thought to myself he's not going to make it.
Stage 4: Comeback — Grabbing the Trellis
My star has decided to grab onto the trellis and reach for the sun.

Stage 5: Steady Growth
He has really taken off; he's doing so good.

Stage 6: Jungle Phase
Loofah gone wild.

Stage 7: Blossoms
The Blossoms are finally here.

Stage 8: Baby Loofah
My First baby loofah.

Stage 9: My Baby Is Growing
He just keeps getting bigger.

Stage 10: This what I seen when I checked on them in the morning.
I can swear they weren't there the day before.

Stage 11: The Loofahs have completely taken over my pepper garden.
They are growing so fast and wild I can't keep up.

Stage 12: He's getting so big
It's hard to say when I looked at him at first and thought he's not going to make it, but he has dominated my garden.

Stage 13:

Stage 14: Cut from the vine with love.
He started turning colors so it's time to cut him from the vine and continue to dry out.
Stage 15: After I skinned him and before his soak.
Right after I skinned him and before his soak, he looks pretty good.

Our story

It started with a challenge — and bloomed into Iron & Ivy.

Stage 16

He's hanging in the wind drying after his soak.
