A Quiet Change in the Garden

🌿 Loofah Garden Update

Our garden-grown loofahs are beginning their natural end-of-season transition, which means this year's harvest is limited. Every loofah used in our products is grown right here in our garden and crafted in small batches with care.

A quiet note from my garden

A story rooted in love

The days were heavy and uncertain.
I was mentally exhausted taking care of my dad full‑time, trying to hold myself together while everything around me felt like it was falling apart.

One day he told me I could probably grow loofahs if I put my mind to it. So I planted those seeds while he was still alive, even though I could barely think straight.

Every morning he would ask me, “Seen anything yet?”
It became our little laugh together — just between us.

When the loofah finally sprouted, he said, “Well, it took long enough,” and we laughed again.

I had this living, growing thing to take care of… and I had him.
Both needed me.
Both depended on me.

My dad passed in December 2025.

After that, the loofah vine dominated my garden. It grew wild, strong, determined — like it refused to give up even when I felt like I had.

That garden became my sanctuary — the place I went to grieve, to cry, to be angry, to feel everything I couldn’t say out loud.

That garden means more to me than anyone will ever know.
It’s where I feel my dad with me.

Now I’m learning to live without him.
It’s hard.
I miss him so much.
I need him right now.

But that loofah — the one he believed I could grow — is still here.
And somehow, it helps me keep going.

With love, from the garden

Our Loofah Story

From seed pop to drying in the wind, this is the ongoing story of my first homegrown loofah garden. Each stage below has one compact image slot and room for a short caption.

From my garden to your glow.

It finally popped up out of the soil.

Stage 2: Sprouts Moving Outside
Getting them used to being outside, almost time to be planted in the garden.

Stage 3: Young-looking rough.
I thought to myself he's not going to make it.
Stage 4: Comeback — Grabbing the Trellis
My star has decided to grab onto the trellis and reach for the sun.

Stage 5: Steady Growth
He has really taken off; he's doing so good.

Stage 6: Jungle Phase
Loofah gone wild.

Stage 7: Blossoms
The Blossoms are finally here.

Stage 8: Baby Loofah
My First baby loofah.

Stage 9: My Baby Is Growing
He just keeps getting bigger.

Stage 10: This what I seen when I checked on them in the morning.
I can swear they weren't there the day before.

Stage 11: The Loofahs have completely taken over my pepper garden.
They are growing so fast and wild I can't keep up.

Stage 12: He's getting so big
It's hard to say when I looked at him at first and thought he's not going to make it, but he has dominated my garden.

Stage 13:

Stage 14: Cut from the vine with love.
He started turning colors so it's time to cut him from the vine and continue to dry out.
Stage 15: After I skinned him and before his soak.
Right after I skinned him and before his soak, he looks pretty good.

These are my spellbook pages — the rituals that steadied me, the stories that healed me, the magic I didn’t know I had.

The First Ritual: hands tending a young loofah vine in a moonlit garden

The first ritual

It started with my dad telling me I could grow loofahs if I put my mind to it. His encouragement stayed with me, from those first seeds to the loofahs I grew.
While I was growing them, I was also taking care of him. Both needed me, and I was there for both. That was my first ritual: showing up, tending with love, and watching what could grow. I didn’t know then that tending them would steady my hands and soften my heart. What began with my dad believing I could do it became something I could hold in my hands, something I had grown with care. That same care is what I bring to Iron and Ivy Apothecary, from my garden to your glow.

Moonlit Ingredients: botanical herbs and amber glass in silver moonlight

Moonlit ingredients

There is something special about knowing where a ritual begins. For me, it begins in the garden, with the loofahs I grow and the care I give them along the way. Before they become part of your routine, they are seeds, vines, and a reason to keep showing up. Moonlit is the feeling I want to bring to this part of Iron and Ivy: quiet, botanical, and a little enchanted. A moment to slow down, notice the textures of nature, and make everyday care feel more intentional. At the heart of it is something real, a loofah grown with patience and tended by my own hands. From my garden to your glow.

A Softer Spell: a quiet garden seat beneath moonlit loofah vines

A softer spell

My first harvest is almost here, and I’m facing it without my dad. This garden holds more than what I grow. It holds everything I learned while caring for my dad full-time, including things I never wanted to learn. Caring for him changed me in ways I still can’t explain. After he passed away, this garden saved my life. I’m still grieving. I don’t have a neat ending to this story. But among the vines, with my hands in the earth, I have a sanctuary. Iron & Ivy grows from that place.”

Where the Making Begins: herbs steeping beside a mortar and pestle on a moonlit worktable, without hands

Where the Making Begins

The ritual of making: oils warming, herbs steeping, none of it was perfect, but all of it was honest. Every blend reminded me that healing doesn’t have to be loud or dramatic. Sometimes it’s just the quiet act of creating something with your own hands. What grows here doesn’t end at the harvest. It becomes something I can make with my hands and share with yours. As my first harvest approaches, there is still so much to learn, and I’m taking each step with care. This is where the garden becomes part of Iron & Ivy, and where I begin to discover what comes next.”

When the Garden Spoke: a loofah vine reaching along an iron trellis toward silver moonlight

When the Garden Spoke

There were days the vines felt louder than my thoughts. Not in words, but in the way they reached, curled, and insisted on growing. They taught me that resilience isn’t a roar. Sometimes it’s just a quiet, steady reaching toward the light. The garden didn’t ask me to be okay. It gave me a place to bring my grief and still watch something grow. I’m still learning how to live without my dad and how to stand on my own two feet. I’m not there yet. It’s so hard, and I miss him so much. But here, among the vines, I have a place to be exactly where I am.”

The Magic I Didn’t Know I Had: young loofah growth rooted in dark earth beneath silver moonlight, without hands

The Magic I Didn’t Know I Had

This apothecary wasn’t built from confidence. It was built from curiosity, grief, stubbornness, and a garden that refused to stop teaching me. Through tending the vines, making blends, and finding comfort in small rituals, I began to see that the magic wasn’t only in the plants. It was also in the care I had to give, the things I could create, and the part of me that kept reaching, even when I didn’t feel strong. I’m still learning how to grow again. Iron & Ivy is part of that beginning.

Loofah Questions, Answered

What is a natural loofah?
A loofah is the fibrous interior of a mature loofah gourd, grown on a vine.

Which shapes can I choose?
Whole loofahs, lengthwise halves, loofah rounds, and round facial discs. Facial discs are a separate option from the other loofah rounds. See each product’s details for its intended use and sizing.

How big are the whole loofahs?
Whole loofahs vary naturally in length. The largest I’ve grown so far measures approximately 21 inches. That’s my biggest yet, not a standard size for every loofah. Check individual product details for sizing.

How do I prepare my loofah?
Wet it thoroughly and allow the fibers to soften before use. Start with light pressure and follow the product’s usage instructions.

How do I care for it afterward?
After your ritual, rinse your loofah well and hang it somewhere airy to dry completely between uses.

Will every loofah look the same?
Natural variations in shape, color, length, and fiber pattern make each one a little different.

Thank you for walking these moonlit pages with me.
May your hands stay soft,
your garden stay brave,
and your glow keepers stay close.

The Garden That Started It All

From My Garden to Your Glow

The Garden That Started It All

When I planted my first loofah seeds, I wasn’t just starting a garden. Every day my dad would ask, “Have you seen anything yet?” And every day I’d answer, “Not yet.”

The morning the first seedling finally appeared, I shouted with excitement. His response? “Well, it took it long enough.” We laughed together.

Today, every vine, every bloom, and every handmade product carries a piece of that story forward.
