The Iron Beneath the Ivy: Where My Garden Story Begins

When I chose the name Iron & Ivy Apothecary, I wanted it to mean something. Something connected to the garden where this all began.

The iron is real. It’s the trellis that supports my loofah vines as they climb, stretch, and find their way toward the light.

It’s also the quiet part of the story. The part that holds steady while everything around it grows.

That balance is at the heart of what I’m building: a little strength, a little wildness, and room for something beautiful to take its time.

Growing loofahs has taught me that beginnings don’t always look like much. A seed. A patch of soil. A place to climb. There’s no finished product to admire yet, just the decision to start and the patience to keep tending.

This is my first loofah-growing journey, and I’m learning as I go. I don’t have generations of farming wisdom behind me. What I have is my home garden in North Carolina, a willingness to try, and a growing appreciation for the work between planting something and seeing what it becomes.

There’s something grounding about that work. Checking the vines. Noticing a new leaf. Seeing where a little more support is needed. Small things, but they ask you to pay attention.

That’s the feeling I want to carry into Iron & Ivy Apothecary.

Not another routine to get perfectly right. Not a promise to become someone new. Just an invitation to make a little room for yourself. To notice texture, water, warmth, and the simple comfort of taking care.

The garden is where that intention begins. My hope is that a little of it will find its way into your everyday rituals, too.

So when you see the name Iron & Ivy, think of the sturdy trellis beneath the climbing vines. One gives support. The other brings life.

And I’m here, tending both.

From my garden to your glow,
Dee
